Building Design Process Stages
Services include and may vary to each unique project:
Initial Enquiry + Site Consultation
Start your project by getting in touch. We’ll look over your project details before booking a free on-site consultation to hear your ideas, review the site and talk through feasibility, budget and approvals. Afterwards, we’ll prepare a clear, fixed-price fee proposal outlining the scope and design stages.
Pre-Design
We begin the process once the fee proposal is accepted. For renovation projects, we carry out a detailed site measure to produce existing plans that form the foundation for future design. At this stage, a Contour & Detail survey of your site is typically required, and we can assist with arranging quotes.
Concept Design
Together, we define your design brief — how your home needs to function, the spaces you want to improve, your lifestyle, and your budget. We then prepare initial concept plans and 3D visuals, leading into a first design meeting to review the ideas and refine the path forward. At this point, it’s also a good time to involve your builder for preliminary estimates.
Developed Design
At this stage, we refine the design based on the concept meeting, working through the details, material selections, and window and door choices. This is also when other consultants become involved so their requirements can be incorporated into the final design.
Development Approval
Some projects may require Development Approval due to the existing character home, new multiple dwellings or site constraints. When this is needed, we prepare specialised plans and work closely with a town planner to ensure all requirements are addressed for a smooth council approval process.
Documentation for Building Approval
A stage where everything comes together. Working-drawing building design plans are fully detailed to translate the design intent into clear, buildable information for construction professionals. These plans are then shared with engineers and the building certifier so their requirements can be incorporated before the final set is issued for building approval process.
Interior Design
We offer optional interior design services to tie the whole project together. We align your personal style with material finishes and fixture selections that stand the test of time. We also prepare detailed interior design plans and documentation to support accurate building quotes and provide one clear set of plans for contractors, reducing questions on site.
Construction
We stay in touch throughout the build, visiting the site and answering any queries to help ensure the design is carried through as intended. We like to be there at the end as well, welcoming you into your new home or celebrating your new development achievement.
